City Wall from Rama I Reign

This significant piece of evidence was unearthed when the university began the construction the construction of the 60 th Anniversary Bulding, during the pre-construction archeological search from June 1997 to August 1998 These notable remains are the foundation of Bangkok City wall from Rama I's reign, along the river-side area. The finds included a canon, 12 canon balls, and pottery fragments. The university has turned the area near the original site into an outdoor museum displaying the findings. The wall and its foundation are also re-constructed and displayed with information plagues. The unearthed findings are accompanied by a record of Bangkok . It indicates that Rama I was enthroned in 1782. The following year he had a new city built on the opposite site of he river. The city walls ran parallel to it and the Chao Phraya River . It was 7.1 km. long, 3.6 m. high and 2.7 m. thick. It has 63 gates: 16 big ones and 47 slits or smaller gates. Along the wall were 14 forts at 400 m. intervals. The university is located between Phra Chan and Phra Athit Forts which had long been torn down.
