This old mosque has been standing on the bank of Saen Saep Canal for longer than 100 years. Famous artifacts built at the same time are the mimbar from which the imam preaches, and the mirrop where the imam leads the prayer Both are woodcarving, exquisitely built with high craftsmanship. People believe the carver was a Chinese called Chekkasi. The mimbar is made of wood, with an arch staircase in front. Both front pillars are decked with carved grapevines. Six steps lead to the seat which is covered with a pointed hexagonal dome decorated with fish-bone motifs. The mirrop is also made of wood like an arch, decorated with carving in foliage and vine patterns, tapering to the hogh pointed top. Both artifacts are intricately decorated with carvings and harmoniously colored. Visitors to the mosque should dress politely and behave themselves as appropriate to a religious place. |
