King Taksin Shrine

Love Legend of Mae Nak

This temple on the Bangkok Yai riverbank served as King Taksin’s state temple for the king had renovated it. He later frequented it for prayer and meditation.

Once the king passed away in 1782, his bone relics were enshrined here in a lotus-budded stupa before the old congregation hall. Rama III had it renovated and renamed it Wat Intharam.

The Gable of the image hall (the old congregation hall) was fitted with a large niche, as favored by King Taksin, to house the king’s favored image in the enlightenment Posture and the king’s relics. The small image hall houses the king’s old bed on which he once meditated and prayed. It is a magnificent wooden bed with intricate ivory carving in floral and foliage designs.
